Update 1.18!


Hello friends! After a lot of work, I'm proud to present to you update 1.18!

Read further for an important announcement.

Here's the summary of all the changes:

Content:

  • Character System Rework

Characters can now be obtained via completing different in-game tasks, like mining, fighting, and exploring!

For development purposes, there is still a code system in place for getting quick and easy access to any character.

  • New Characters

This update introduces 6 new characters, aswell as a rework for the old ones!

These include Doom Guy, Joe, Mike, Frank, BI-O3, and Rick.

Each one has their individual abilities, stats, and starting items.

  • Boss Rework

The final boss has been a little clunky, but that should be over now thanks to the new balancing changes in place!

  • Added lightning to rain, which will randomly strike mobs and projectiles.
  • Projectiles will now gain 1 explosive power and automatically target mobs after colliding with an explosion.
  • Added a new powerup.
  • New projectiles.
  • New Easter eggs!

Bug Fixes:

  • Fixed some powerups not working properly.
  • Fixed effects not ticking correctly.
  • Fixed UI elements not showing correctly.
  • Improved the Data generation process
  • Improved performance.
  • Fixed starting items not being given properly.
  • Fixed a lot of visual bugs
  • Fixed minor bugs.

Technical Stuff:

  • Custom Character Framework: Adding a new character is now as easy as drawing the 12 necessary costumes and editing the stats! This supports character stats, character starting powerups, character starting items, and character properties and abilities!
  • Custom Ability Framework: Want to make a character breathe fire? Or shoot lasers? Or even explode itself! Well now you can, with the brand new ability framework. Just create a link to the code you made and it will get triggered with a custom cooldown or other requirement that you decide!
  • Ray Casting Support: There is now a ray-casting system in place which is used by some projectiles to automatically target entities, but it can be repurposed for other uses!
  • Custom Achievement Framework: Achievements now support up to 99 pages, with up to 1127 achievements you could add! All you have to do is draw it, and add a way to obtain it.
  • Much more stable rendering system. Modes can be tagged as menus, which will make in-game entities dissapear. No more "and" chains!
  • Other minor improvements.

Important announcement:

  • Where are we?

I've been working on this game for a while, and one of the main goals was to optimize and improve the "Behind the scenes", as it was very messy and confusing to work with. Now that we're here, I think I'm ready to say that we've come a long way. There are maybe a couple more things I'd like to improve, but the game is mostly complete.

  • What's ahead?

I think the best path forward from here, is to focus more on the community. I'm excited to make some modding tutorials, add documentation for the code, organize events, and other cool stuff! Look out for announcements in our Discord Server! I might even consider doing some stuff with Unity ;)...

  • In the meantime...

The next few updates will most likely focus on finishing up the game, and polishing the edges. Don't expect anything huge, most of the "insane rework" or "huge content" has been added. But don't be sad! Future updates might still include new content, if I see that the game needs it.
